WellCAD v6
Released in September 2025, WellCAD 6 is a major update that introduces the new Geomechanics Module, marking ALT’s entry into the geomechanics domain with integrated tools for rock mechanics calculations, stress modelling and fracture stability analysis using Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria. This release also adds new Box Plot and Spider Plot visualisation capabilities, along with a Script Console for real-time feedback during automation workflows.
The v6.1 update, released in February 2026, builds on this foundation with targeted usability improvements to file imports and the Script Editor, enhanced stability across the platform, and a new KS and GK processing plug-in for resistivity and radiometry interpretation.
WellCAD v5.8
Released in August 2024, WellCAD 5.8 introduces significant enhancements, including a major new Fracture Topology functionality for a more comprehensive understanding of fracture networks through X, Y, and I-node analysis. This update fully integrates HeadCAD into the main application for streamlined header design, introduces new chart types like pie charts, and improves the Depth Matcher with Undo/Redo functions. The S-Wave picking process has also been updated with innovative new algorithms.
WellCAD v5.7
Released in June 2023, this version focuses on simplifying and speeding up the user workflow from raw data to a final plot. Highlights include a streamlined data import process, a new metadata bar for better information handling, and a more intuitive log layout engine with a snap grid. Additionally, the LithCAD and ToadCAD applications have been fully integrated into the main workspace, and a Python Script Editor has been added to the Automation module.
WellCAD v5.6
The v5.6 update, released in October 2022, introduces the Cased Hole Ultrasonics workspace as part of the Casing Integrity module, providing a dynamic solution to determine casing thickness and cementation quality from ultrasonic waveforms. This version also rolls out a completely new, simplified licensing system to support trial, dongle, node-locked, and network licenses from a single, user-friendly setup.
WellCAD v5.5
Released in February 2022, this version enhances the Image & Structure Interpretation module with new capabilities like Linear Structure Picking, Partial Picks, and Terzaghi Correction. The Basic module is updated with a Spinner Flowmeter Calibration workspace and a new Flow Velocity process. A major highlight is the introduction of an integrated Script Editor, including a BETA version of pyWellCAD for Python automation.
WellCAD v5.4
Released in October 2020, the v5.4 update brings powerful new workspaces, including a Velocity Analysis Workspace for FWS processing and the Core Shifter Workspace for advanced depth matching and reorientation of core images and structures. Key enhancements to the basic module include Dynamic Depth Scaling, Most Frequently Used Menus, and a Tool Model Repository to simplify analyses.
WellCAD v5.3
Released in June 2019, this version introduces the highly anticipated Core Image Cropper tool, allowing users to extract and depth-register images from core box photos. The CoreCAD module receives a full review and extension of its core description workspace. The basic module is enhanced with a new collection of Groundwater processes, a Flowmeter workspace for impeller curve interpretation, and full support for the LAS 3.0 format.
WellCAD v5.2
Released in March 2017, WellCAD v5.2 introduces three major new add-on modules: NMR processing, NMRSA Tool post-processing, and the Casing Integrity module for professional cased hole data interpretation. This release also adds a color classification algorithm for core images and enhances the basic module with features like a unit converter, an automated depth matcher, and native WellCAD PDF export.
WellCAD v5.1
Released in March 2015, the highlight of the v5.1 update is the new Image & Structure Interpretation (ISI) Workspace, a purpose-built add-on module that combines structure picking, classification, and interpretation into a single workflow. This version also adds a dynamic Cross Section viewer, a Waveform viewer, a new process to compute Rock Quality Designation (RQD), and the ability to display planar structures within the 3D Log.
WellCAD v5.0
Released in March 2014, this major version overhauls the user experience with a new user interface across WellCAD, LithCAD, ToadCAD, and HeadCAD. Key feature introductions include new free hand and chart log types with cross-plots and diagrams, customizable toolbars and menus, a new author protection system for borehole documents, and support for AGS4 file imports.
