WellCAD 5.8
What’s new in WellCAD 5.8?
We’re excited to announce several major upgrades in WellCAD 5.8, designed to enhance your experience and optimise your workflows.
This release includes a variety of new features and improvements:
New Fracture Topology Functionality
Fractures typically form networks that affect rock properties like strength and permeability. These interactions are better understood through fracture topology rather than just geometry.
WellCAD 5.8, inspired by Sanderson and Nixon (2015), includes features to identify and display node types indicating fracture connections. It also refines partial sinusoid picking for precise adjustments and customisable shortcut keys. Additionally, the update enhances the visualisation of fracture distributions and supports Pxy statistics for calculating fracture frequencies and intensities.
Enhanced Header Design
HeadCAD is now integrated into the WellCAD header editor with new features. You can create or edit header forms directly within WellCAD, with an improved interface and added design mode. The standalone HeadCAD is no longer available in WellCAD 5.8. New features include adding dynamically linked diagrams from various logs and the ability to include hyperlinks in the header form for direct access to external media.
New Charts
WellCAD 5.8 enhances visualisation capabilities with new chart objects, including pie charts and improved Rose diagrams. Pie charts, now available within the Chart log and as a Header Chart object, provide a powerful tool for illustrating the percentages of different parts and categories, such as lithology or structure type distributions, in relation to a borehole. Rose diagrams in Polar & Rose logs, Dip workspace and Header forms can now display wedges segmented by the proportions of the different structure types. The colours of the wedges correspond to the specific structure types being represented.
Improved S-Wave Picking and Empirical Processes
An innovative picking system has been introduced to determine the first arrival wave using an algorithm based on kurtosis changes in the FWS signal. Additionally, when data quality hinders clear detection of shear wave intercepts, WellCAD 5.8 offers various shear wave velocity estimation methods, including those from Brocher, Castagna, Carroll, and Christensen.
Depth Matcher Enhancements
The Depth Matcher tab now includes three new features: 1) Undo, 2) Redo, and 3) Reset Matching. These additions enable users to interact more dynamically and efficiently with depth matching operations.
