Geomechanics

background

Transform your wellbore data into actionable geomechanical insights.

The Geomechanics module in WellCAD centralises rock mechanics, stress modelling, and fracture stability analysis in a single interactive environment. With built-in tools for calculating mechanical properties, in-situ stresses, and Mohr-Coulomb fracture stability, it streamlines complex geomechanical workflows and connects seamlessly with other WellCAD modules such as ISI and FWS.

Rock Mechanics Analysis: Calculate multiple rock mechanical properties (Poisson’s Ratio, Young’s Modulus, Unconfined Compressive Strength – UCS, etc.) using the default methods included in WellCAD, or apply the Custom Equation Editor, a feature designed to incorporate any empirical method directly into WellCAD.

  • In-Situ Stress Computation: Determine principal stresses using log-derived mechanical properties (Hydrostatic pressure, vertical stress, pore pressure, minimum and maximum horizontal stresses).
  • Fracture Stability Assessment: Identify critically stressed fractures with built-in Mohr–Coulomb circles. An interactive app has been defined where interpreted features from image log analysis can be subject to a slip tendency analysis.
  • Integrated Environment: Centralises all geomechanical calculations and visualisations in a single, modular workspace.
  • Efficient Workflow Management: Enables seamless task switching, result comparison, and handling of complex workflows with consistency.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Supports both standard and advanced geomechanics applications for a wide range of users.
  • Zone-Specific Modelling: Define multiple geological zones, each with customised input parameters and calculation methods.
  • Interactivity: Instantly update calculations and workflows as parameters or inputs change, ensuring agile and efficient decision-making.
